  Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) is India’s first Marine University for maritime-related education, training and research. AMET is established as a private maritime institute. It offers a wide range of courses approved by Directorate General of Shipping and University Grants Commission, including vocational certificates at many levels, bachelor degrees and diplomas; as well as postgraduate certificates and degrees, including doctorates. With prominent shipping companies recruiting its students, it even had the world’s largest shipping giant, MAERSK recruit large number of students including from first year.

AMET invites applications for various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for the academic year, the selection for most of which will be through an all-India Entrance Examination conducted by the University.

Eligibility

For B.E. Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering and Civil Engineering:

  • You should have passed in Plus-two (12th Standard) or its equivalent, with minimum 60% aggregate in Maths, Physics and Chemistry group and at least 50% marks in English.
  • Medical Standard: You should be physically fit for sea service under standard norms, with eyesight 6/6 in better eye, 6/9 in other eye and with no colour blindness

For B.E Petroleum Engineering and B.E. Harbour and Ocean Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Marine)and B.E. Marine Information Technology and B.E. Electronics and Communication Engineering: You should have passed Plus-two (12th Standard) or its equivalent, with minimum 50% Marks for OC and 45% Marks for others aggregate in Maths, Physics and Chemistry group and 50% marks in English from any recognized Board. An aptitude for field work is necessary.

  • You should have passed in Plus-two (12th Standard) or its equivalent, with minimum 60% aggregate in Maths, Physics and Chemistry group and at least 50% marks in English.

For B.E. Mechanical Engineering: A Pass in Plus-two (12th Standard) or its equivalent, with minimum 50% Marks for OC and 45% Marks for others aggregate in Maths, Physics and Chemistry Group from any recognized Board. Minimum 50% marks in the English either in +2 or 10.

Age: For all courses, you should be less than 25 years at the time of commencement of the course.

B.Sc

AMET offers the following three year residential courses for B.Sc. Programme:

  • Nautical Science
  • Marine Catering

Eligibility

For B.Sc. Nautical Science:

  • You should have passed Plus-two (12th Standard) or its equivalent, with minimum 60% aggregate in Maths, Physics and Chemistry group and at least 50% marks in English.
  • Medical Standard: You should be physically fit for sea service under standard norms, with eyesight 6/6 in better eye, 6/9 in other eye and with no colour blindness.

For B.Sc. Marine Catering:

  • You should have passed in 12th Standard with 50% aggregate (in any group)
  • You should have 50% of marks in English subject in 10th Standard or 12th Standard.

Age: For all courses, you should be less than 25 years at the time of commencement of the course.

ME/M.Tech

AMET offers the following two years courses for M.Tech. Programme:

Eligibility

  • For M.Tech. Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering: You should have an undergraduate Degree in Naval Architecture, Ship Building, Petroleum, Marine Engineering, Mechanical, Civil, Metallurgy, Chemical, Aeronautic, Production & Industrial Engineering
  • For M.Tech. Computer Science and Information Technology:
    • Full time: You should have an engineering degree in Computer science/ IT /Electronics/ Electrical/ Electronics and Instrumentation or MCA or M.Sc. in CS/ IT or DOECC ‘B’ Level or AMIE/ AMIETE. The candidates with a valid GATE score in any of the disciplines mentioned in eligible subjects will be given priority over non-GATE candidates.
    • Part time: In addition to the above eligibility norms, you must have been working in industries/ academic institution for at least two years. You must have sufficient working knowledge on programming which will be evaluated through entrance test.
  • For M.Tech. Marine Engineering Management:
    • You should possess MOT 1st Class (Motor) Certificate of competency.
    • You should possess an undergraduate degree in marine, mechanical, electrical engineering and MOT 2nd Class (Motor) certificate of competency
    • You should have an Extra First Class certificate of competency (Due credit will be given for the subjects, if any, already covered)
  • For M.Tech. Petroleum Engineering: You should have a BE degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, M.Sc. Geology, M.Sc. Geophysics.
  • For M.Tech. Power Systems and Offshore Energy Engineering: You should have a BE degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering-Marine, Marine Engineering, Naval Arch and Offshore Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Harbour Engineering

M.Sc

AMET offers the following two years courses for M.Sc. Programme:

  • Data Science and Analytics
  • Fleet Operations and Management
  • Marine Biology

Eligibility

For M.Sc. Data Science and Analytics: You should have engineering degree (or) B.Sc. in Computer Science/ IT / Computer Application / Software Engineering/ Mathematics / Statistics (or) B.A.in economics with mathematics as ancillary subject (or) B.Com with computer application.

For M.Sc. Fleet Operations and Management:

  • If you have a Master’s degree in FG/MOT 1st Class (Motor Certificate of Competency).
  • If you have an Undergraduate Degree and possess Mates / 2nd Class (Motor) certificates of competency.
  • If you have Extra Master / Extra First Class certificates of competency. (Due credits will be given for the subjects, if any, already covered).
  • If you have appropriate certificates of competency (deck or engine) and have also passed the Membership examination of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, London.
  • If you have qualifications equivalent to the any one of the above

For M.Sc. Marine Biology: You should have Bachelor degree from any recognized universities, in any branch of Life Sciences with not less than 55%. If you are awaiting final year results, you can apply.

MBA/PGDM

AMET offers the following two years courses for MBA Programme:

Eligibility

  • All courses except MBA Fisheries Industrial Management: You should have any degree from a recognized University with 50 % marks.(OR) Mariners holding the following professional qualification obtained after a minimum duration of study-cum-training of 6 years after 10+2 leading to:Master Foreign Going Certificate of Competency OR First Class Motor or Steam or Combined (Chief Engineer) Certificate of Competency issued by the Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India or its counterparts in other countries.
  • For MBA Fisheries Industrial Management: You should be a graduate in Science, Commerce and Life Sciences, with a minimum of 50% marks in under-graduate level from a recognized University. Graduates awaiting final results in the qualifying degree examination can also apply, subject to producing the mark lists before finalization of selection.

Selection Process

BE/B.Tech , B.Sc & ME/M.Tech

The selection procedure is different for different courses:

Entrance Exam and Personal Interview:

Following are the courses that select on the basis of rank obtained based on marks in the Entrance Exam and interview:

  • All B.Sc. courses
  • All BE courses
  • All BBA course
  • M.Sc. Data Science and Analytics
  • M.Tech. Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering
  • M.Tech. Computer Science and Information Technology
  • M.Tech. Petroleum Engineering
  • M.Tech. Power Systems and Offshore Energy Engineering

Scheme of Entrance Exam: It will be conducted through online mode at major cities in India. It will be based on the syllabus prescribed for Higher Secondary courses in the subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics syllabus plus English grammar, vocabulary and Logical & Analytical reasoning.

Medical Examination: You will also be subjected to a Medical exam if you are seeking admission to B.Sc. Nautical Science and BE Marine Engineering courses. You will have to bear a fee of Rs. 1500 at the time of the medical exam.

For B.E. Marine Information TechnologyB.Tech. Marine Biotechnology and BBA Shipping: Test for proficiency in English will be conducted and if you secure marks below 50%, you will be required to take special coaching to bridge the gap in communication.

For B.E Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering: JEE candidates will be given preference.

For M.Tech. Computer Science and Information Technology: If you have a valid GATE score in any of the disciplines mentioned in eligible subjects, you will be given priority over non-GATE candidates.

Group Discussion and Personal Interview:

Following are the courses that select on the basis of marks obtained in the Group Discussion and Personal interview:

  • M.Sc. Fleet Operations and Management
  • M.Tech. Marine Engineering Management
  • All MBA courses

Personal Interview:

For M.Sc. Marine Biotech, you will be selected on the basis of the marks obtained in the Personal Interview.
