The University of Tampa was founded in 1931 as Tampa Junior College. In 1933 it was officially renamed the University of Tampa. The college building was originally known as the Tampa Bay Hotel, built between 1888 and 1891 with 5 stories and 511 rooms.
Today it is a state-of-the-art campus with laboratories, administrative offices and classrooms. It offers more than 200 programs including 16 masters, a doctorate, two certificates, 10 concentrations and three 4+1 programs. The university has 4 colleges namely College of Arts and Humanities, Sykes College of Business, College of Natural and Health Sciences and College of Social Sciences, Mathematics and Education.
The Kennedy Blvd, Tampa, Florida campus is the university’s main campus which encourages a dynamic learning experience. There are 11 modern dorms and 28 dining outlets on campus, as well as nearly 300 student organizations, clubs, and teams. Students can participate in sports such as softball, soccer, football, basketball, and ultimate Frisbee, as well as several off-campus activities. The university has several fraternities and sororities that students can join and find like-minded people. Tampa is a family and cultural vacation destination with many options for fun and entertainment. There are also several parks, museums, gardens, markets and restaurants.
There are 9,600 students at the University of Tampa, 50% of whom are from Florida. It is also home to 1,400 international students from 132 countries and 50 US states. At the university, 92% of students receive financial aid with $72 million in institutional aid. As of September last year, the university had $736 million in assets and $330 million in projected annual revenue. In 2018-2019, it raised over $14 million with an annual economic impact of $1.1 billion. Each year, the University of Tampa hosts more than 400 events and 5,000 internships and 25,000 job postings are uploaded to the HIRE-UT site each year.
