Banaras Hindu University (BHU)which is one of the largest residential Universities of Asia, is a Central University located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The University, which was established in 1916, is considered to be an Institute of National Importance. Banaras Hindu University (BHU) offers various courses at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level. The admissions are done on the basis of merit. Students seeking admission have to appear in an Entrance test (UET for Undergraduate courses and PET for Postgraduate courses).

The application for UET generally opens in January/February followed by the Exam in April/ May. The students selected on the basis of merit, have to undergo a Counseling procedure.

Candidates seeking admission in the above mentioned courses may fill the application form of the respective course by following these steps:-

  1. Candidates need to download the cll letter which is sent to their mail after the selection process.
  2. Fill in the preference form regarding the choices of the course a student wants to opt for.
  3. Reach the counseling venue on time, consult the teachers present there at that time and if someone wish to change their preference, they may change the same provided  they must take a printut of the form and sign it.
  4. Once all the documents are verified, collect the provisional admission letter which will be provided after the seat allotment one day after counseling.
  5. Final step in direction of admission process is to make payment of the admission fee to get their seats reserved.

    Eligibility Criteria

    B.Sc & B.Sc (Agriculture)

    1. Mathematics group.
    2. Biology group

    For Mathematics group, the students must have passed Higher Secondary (Class 10+2) Examination or equivalent with at least 50% marks in aggregate in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry/ Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Geography/ Geology/ Statistics. The students must also be 22 years old or below as on July 1, 2019.

    For Biology group, the students must have passed Higher Secondary (Class 10+2) Examination or equivalent with at least 50% marks in aggregate in Chemistry, Physics, and Biology/ Geography/ Geology.  The students must also be 22 years old or below.

    Bachelor of Science (Agriculture)

    The students must have passed class 10+2 or Intermediate Examination in Science (that is, with Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics/ Biology) or in Agriculture with at least 50% marks in aggregate. The students must not be below 16 years or above 25 years of age.

    Bachelor of Fine Arts [BFA]

    1. Applied Arts.
    2. Painting.
    3. Plastic Arts.
    4. Textile Design.
    5. Pottery and Ceramics

    The students must have passed Higher Secondary (Class 10+2) Examination or equivalent with at least 50% marks in aggregate. The students must also be 22 years old or below.

    1. Flute.
    2. Tabla.
    3. Violin.
    4. Sitar.
    5. Vocal.
    1. Indian Classical Dance.
    2. Bharat Natyam.
    3. Kathak.

    The students must have passed Higher Secondary (Class 10+2) Examination or equivalent, or a Graduate/ Postgraduate Degree. The students should also satisfy any of the following conditions.

    • The students must have had Instrumental Music/ Kathak/ Bharat Natyam/ Vocal Music as one of the subjects in the above-mentioned courses.
    • The students must have passed Diploma (3 years) in Instrumental Music/ Kathak/ Bharat Natyam/ Vocal Music Examination of BHU or its equivalent.
    • The student must have passed in any of the following Examinations. For Instrumental/ Vocal/ Dance.
    1. Senior Diploma Examination of the Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad.
    2. Madhyama Examination of the Bhatkande Sangeet Vidyapeeth, Lucknow.
    3. Madhyama in Music Examination of the Madhya Pradesh Government.
    4. Madhyama Examination of the ABGMV Mandal, Mumbai.
    5. Madhyama Examination of the Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidhyalaya, Khairagarh.
    • For Dance only.
    1. Part-time Diploma Examination of Kalakshetra.
    2. Chennai/ Senior Certificate course issued under the auspices of the Tamil Nadu Government.
    3. 5-year Diploma of Bharatiya Nritya Mandir, Patna.

    Also, the students must have secured at least 50% marks in Dance/ Music Practical in each of the conditions mentioned above.


    How To Apply

    Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons.} (Mathematics) & Bachelor of Fine Arts [BFA]The students seeking admission in any of the B.Sc., BPA, B.Mus., and BFA courses offered by the University need to apply for UET first. The application form for the same is available on the Entrance Test Portal of BHU and can be filled online only.

    Students need to fill the form with correct information and valid contact details. Once, the application form is filled, the students need to upload scanned images of their photograph and signature.

    The submission is successful only after the application fee is paid. The payment can be done online as well as offline. The application fee is as follows.

    • General/ OBC Category – INR 500.
    • SC/ST Category – INR 250.

    In case an application is made for more than one course, then.

    • General/ OBC Category – INR 200.
    • SC/ST Category – INR 100.

    After the fee payment, students are expected to download their Admit Card as per the schedule and appear for the exam followed by the Selection/ Admission Procedure.


    Admission Process

    Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons.} (Mathematics) & Bachelor of Fine Arts [BFA]Students are selected on the basis of their performance in the UET. The students need to attend the Counseling Procedure for admission after the announcement of the Merit lists.

    Step 1 – Download the Call Letter.

    Selected students are informed about their selection and Call Letter through an e-mail. Students need to download the Call Letter for the Counseling. They can do so by logging into their Entrance Test Portal account.

    Step 2 – Fill the Preference Entry Form.

    Selected students need to fill a Preference Entry form. In the form, students have to fill in their choices of courses and disciplines they want to study in. All the choices are to be made very carefully.

    Step 3 – Report to the Counseling venue as per the allotted time and date.

    Further, selected students need to report to the Counseling venue. After consulting the teachers present over there, students can make changes to the choices made in the Preference Entry Form. Once the Form is modified, students need to take a print-out of the same and sign it. Students then need to submit the signed Form along with the following documents for Documents Verification.

    1. High School Examination Certificate and Mark sheets.
    2. Graduation mark sheets and Certificate, if applicable.
    3. Migration Certificate.
    4. Transfer Certificate.
    5. Class 10 Mark sheet and Certificate.
    6. UET Admit Card.
    7. Category Certificate, if applicable.
    8. Certificates proving proficiency in Sports in the case of sports seat.
    9. Physically Challenged Certificate.

    Step 4 – Get the Provisional Admission Letter.

    Once, all the documents are verified, a computer allots a seat to a student. The allotment is based on merit as well as student’s choices. After allotment, students are provided a Provisional Admission Letter (one day after the counseling).

    Step 5 – Make the Fee payment

    Once the Provisional Admission Letter is received, students need to pay the Admission fees to confirm their admission. The payment can be done online as well as offline. If the payment is made offline, students need to submit the proof of the same at the Counseling venue before the deadline.

    Up-gradation of seats is possible. In case of any up-gradation, the upgraded students are informed of the same and changes are made accordingly.
