National Institute of Fashion Technology Entrance Exam ( NIFT Entrance Exam 2018)
Aspirants who wanted to pursue their career in design programe should appear in the NIFT entrance exam conducted by National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in order to shortlist the eligible candidates.The headquarter of NIFT is situated in New Delhi. Apart from this city, NIFT has domestic centres at Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Patna, Shillong and Raebareli.
After clearing the NIFT Entrance exam candidate will be eligibile to take admission in following courses.
- Bachelor of Design (BDes)
- Bachelor of Fashion Technology (BFTech)
- Master of Design (MDes)
- Master of Fashion Management (MFM)
- Master of Fashion Technology (MFTech)
Master of Fashion National Institute of Fashion Technology offers a chance to take direct admission in the second year of Bachelor of Design (BDes)and in BFTech programmes For this, candidates need to appear for a written test that is conducted for National Institute of Fashion Technology Lateral Entry Admissions (NLEA).
National Institute of Fashion Technology Entrance Exam 2018 exam registrations are started from October 20, 2017 and the entrance test for NIFT admissions is scheduled to be conducted on January 21, 2018.
Candidates need to fulfill multiple NIFT Entrance Exam 2018 eligibility criteria if they want to secure admission in Bachelor of Design programmes offered at National Institute of Fashion Technology. NIFT offers BDes programme in the following specialisations:
- Fashion Design
- Leather Design
- Accessory Design
- Textile Design
- Knitwear Design
- Fashion Communication
Eligibility criteria
- Aspirant should Have completed their +2 level (in the 10+2 pattern of examination) from any recognised Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, like Central Board of Secondary Education / State Board New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi.
- Aspirant should Have cleared the General Certificate Education (GCE) Exam (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB).
- Aspirant should have a pass grade in their Senior Secondary School Examination which is conducted by the National Open School having atleast five subjects.
- Possess a three or four year diploma which is recognised by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.
Age Limit for NIFT’s Bachelors Programmes:
Aspirants are eligible to apply for NIFT Entrance Test if they are 23 years of age or below as on October 1, 2017.
For SC/ST/ Differently Abled Person (PHP) category will be given age relaxation of five years for admissions.
Eligibility Criteria for NLEA to BDes
Candidate meet the eligibility criteria for NLEA for BDes
- Aspirants should Have cleared Secondary Higher Secondary /10th
OR
- Aspirant should have cleared Senior Secondary Examination/12threcognised by AIU.
AND
- Should have cleared 3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE/AIU/UGC or a State Board of Technical Education
AND
- Aspirant should have attended courses related to Fashion/Apparel/Textile and Accessories/Home Science/Handloom Technology/Products/Visual Communication/Graphic Design/Industrial Design/Interior Design/Multimedia Design/Apparel Technology/Leather.
OR
- Candidates who have completed 2 year regular UG Diploma Programme at NIFT.
Apart from this, 15% of seats (that is, 5 seats in each course) at NIFT are reserved for foreign nationals/SAARC/NRIs. Such candidates will be offered admissions based on the below mentioned exams:

Aspirants who have clear NIFT entrance exam for BDes course admission then need to appear for the Situation Test round and aspirants who wanted to take admissionin MDes course admission need to appear for the Group Discussion/Personal Interview round.

NIFT Counseling
Candidates will be called for NIFT counselling process as per their rank in NIFT entrance exam 2018. Separate counselling process is conducted for different design course admissions. NIFT authorities conduct a centralised counselling process for NIFT admissions in different design programes.

NIFT Entrance exam 2018 Exam Pattern & Syllabus
Entrance exams to all courses offered at NIFT will be taken in two phase/round.
Phase One (PBT I) of the examinations will be the first round of paper based tests.
the second round of tests which could either be paper based (PBT II) or computer based (CBT), depending upon the particular course.

The General Ability Test paper for B.FTech, MFM, M.Des AND M.FTech will be divided in the following segments:

- Communication Ability and English Comprehension – 45 Questions for B.FTech and M.FTech and 50 Questions for MFM
- Analytical and Logical Ability – 25 Questions for B.FTech, M.FTech and MFM

CAT
The Creative Ability Test (CAT) assesses an applicants’ divination skill, observation ability, innovative and design ability. Use of color and illustrative abilities will play a major role.
Situation Test
On the basis of your performace in CAT and GAT, B.Des applicants are called for another test called the Situation Test. Situation tests are meant to examine candidate skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials. Assessment will done on the basis of space visualization, innovative and creative use of given material, composition of elements, color scheme, construction skill , finesse of the model and overall presentation etc.
Group Discussions
Candidates chose for Masters Programs from the composed selection test will partake in Case Study based Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interview(PI).The duration of GD session will be usually 15 to 20 minutes. Applicants will be examined on the following criteria:
- Ability to generate new ideas
- Problem solving approach
- Leadership qualities
- Effective communication
- Conceptual clarity
- Knowledge of the topic assigned
- Contribution made to the topic
- Interpersonal skills
Personal Interview
In the PI, applicants will be examined on the following criteria:

- Overall achievements in academics and co-curricular activities

- General awareness and aptitude, creative and lateral thinking.
