IIT Patna (Indian Institute of Technology, Patna) is one of the best engineering institutes in India. It is an Autonomous University. It is recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India.

IIT Patna offers courses at under graduate, post graduate and doctoral level. IIT Patna offers B.Tech (Bachelor of Technology) in Various Specialization. It is a full time under graduate degree. The duration of B.Tech program is four years.

IIT Patna B.Tech Eligibility Criteria
BE/B.Tech
The eligibility criteria for admission to B.Tech program is prescribed by the institute. The complete eligibility criteria is mentioned below:

Candidates must have passed class 12 in relevant stream from a well-recognized board.
Students need to score at least 50% marks in class 12 to be eligible for the program.
Applicants should have been born on or after October 1, 1992.
There is relaxation of five years for reserved category candidates SC, ST and PwD. Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1987.
JEE Advanced Registration Process
BE/B.Tech
Candidates who have successfully qualify JEE Main and obtain rank in top 2, 20000 are only eligible to apply for JEE Advanced. It is a national level test which is conducted for B.E/ B.Tech admissions into 23 IITs.

The registration is done in online mode only. Candidates who wish to apply are required to submit the application form on the official website of JEE Advanced i.e. www.jeeadv.ac.in. Applications received after the due date will not be accepted.

Students are advised to make sure that all the information which is mentioned on the application form should be correct and verified with original documents.

Applicants need to mention a valid email address or phone number on the application form. All the information regarding exam will be sent by email.

At the time of application form submission, candidates have to pay an application fee of INR 1200. The amount of application fee can be paid in online as well as offline mode.

  1. Visit the official website of JEE Advanced i.e. jeeadv.ac.in
  2. Enter your JEE Main roll number and date of birth
  3. Fill the JEE Advanced registration form
  4. Upload all the required documents
  5. Pay application fee
  6. Recheck your details and save application form

JEE Advanced Exam Pattern

The exam is held in offline mode (pen and paper based). The question paper consists of three sections namely Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

The exam is divided into two parts- Paper 1 and Paper 2. The exam pattern varies for both papers.

IIT Patna B.Tech Selection Process

BE/B.Tech

The selection is done on the basis of JEE Advanced score. Shortlisted candidates on the basis of their JEE Advanced score are required to go for document verification process.

JoSAA Tie Breaking Process

In case two or more candidates have same aggregate marks, then the below given tie-breaker criteria will be followed for determining the rank:

  • If two or more candidate score equal rank than- candidate obtained more marks in Mathematics will get preference.
  • If still is tie- student who has scored more marks in Physics will get high rank.
  • If still is tie- both candidates will get the same rank.

IIT Patna Reservation Criteria

There are some seats reserved for reserved category candidates SC/ ST in every departments as per the rules of the Government of India. The reservation criteria as follow below:

  • Scheduled Caste (SC) – 15% of seats in every course.
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST) – 7.5% of seats in every course.
  • Persons with Disability (PwD) – 3% seats in each of OPEN, OBC-NCL, SC and ST category seats.

Some seats allotted for foreign nationals are supernumerary with a cap of 10% of total number of seats in every course.


JoSAA Counselling

Candidates who will successfully qualify JEE Advanced will participate in JoSAA counselling.  JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) conducts counselling for candidates who have successfully qualified JEE Main as well as JEE Advanced.

JoSAA conducts the seat allocation process for the academic programs offered by 92 JEE Main Participating Institutes – IITs/ NITs/ ISM/ IIITs and other GFTIs for the current academic year. There are 6 rounds of JoSAA counselling.

To participate in JoSAA counselling, candidates need to register themselves on JoSAA website. At the time of registration process, students have to fill their preferable institutes.

JoSAA allots the seats to candidates on the basis of All India Rank secured in JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

Steps to Apply for JoSAA:

  1. Go to JoSAA website i.e. http://josaa.nic.in.
  2. Click on “Online Registering and Choice Filling”
  3. Login with your JEE Main roll number and password
  4. Go to your profile and verify all the filled information
  5. Click on link “Choices Available” to view the various programs available for you to choose
  6. Fill your choices and submit
  7. Take the print out for future reference

Students have to presents all the required documents original with photocopy at the time of counselling process. Here is the list of all the required documents.
